Interstate fire and emergency management personnel are providing support to Victoria in a range of roles as Victorian personnel manage a number of fires across the state.
Almost 250 personnel from NSW, SA, QLD, WA and the ACT are currently in Victoria in a range of roles including firefighting, incident management teams, air operations and fire behaviour roles. There is also a number of trucks and aircraft also being shared with Victoria.
Victoria’s State Response Controller Stephanie Rotarangi said the added support from interstate agencies was providing necessary specialist skills and experience to help make a difference in Victoria.
“Interstate personnel are taking up a range of roles in the State Control Centre, Regional Control Centres, Incident Control Centres and out in the field,” she said.
“We are extremely grateful for the expertise and support provided. Thanks to our colleagues who were able to respond so quickly to the call for assistance and to their families and employers for supporting this deployment.
“I also acknowledge all the hard work that is being done in Victoria, at every level, to ensure the deployment is co-ordinated and our interstate teams are well supported while they are here.”
Since 28 February, there has been more than 100,000ha burnt as a result of significant fires across Victoria. Emergency management personnel are currently responding to 17 fires.
