Emergency services and theatre don’t always overlap, but they will when the Come From Away stage show launches in Melbourne next month.
With the aim of raising awareness of the vital support the state’s emergency management personnel provide Victorians, the Come from Away company will donate $40 from the proceeds of each ticket sold for the 10 July performance to supporting emergency services.
Come From Away follows the joyous, incredible real-life journey of 7,000 air passengers who became grounded in the tiny town of Gander, Newfoundland in Canada after US airspace was shut down in the wake of the September 11 tragedy.
Emergency Management Commissioner Andrew Crisp said Come From Away was an extraordinary story of an emergency response and a caring community.
“It’s a wonderful initiative that $40 from the proceeds of every ticket sold will go toward supporting our emergency services,” he said.
“This will help the people that are protecting their community day in, day out.
“Our emergency services are always there to lend a hand to those in need, and by going to this show, we are able to lend a hand to them.”
